Batch Production: How it Works

Fisher Blades makes production knives in “batch runs.” Each batch is small (compared to big knife company production) – usually a few hundred knives per batch. This gives us the opportunity to put our hands on every single knife in that batch to ensure exceptional quality in every knife.

We run three kinds of batches:  PRIME EDITIONS, RERUN EDITIONS and UNICORN EDITIONS.

PRIME EDITIONS are the inaugural run of a knife model. It will always be numbered as "BATCH 001." Think of it as the debutante run. When we run subsequent batches of this knife model in the same material/finish/color combination, those are called "Rerun" editions. See next:

RERUN EDITIONS are production batches of knife models made with a material/finish/color combination (blade steel, blade finish, scale material/color) which are Reruns of Prime Editions. Which means if you miss getting a knife from one Rerun batch, you will be able to get that same material/color make-up in a subsequent batch.

UNICORN EDITIONS are production batches made with material/finish/color combinations that will only be run once. This means that if you miss getting one of these knives, you’re out of luck! We’ll never run that particular material/finish/color make-up in that knife model again.

BLADE ETCHING indicates every aspect of that knife and batch. Each blade is laser-etched with:

Blade model name (BECKWITH / COVERT, e.g.)

Batch #: this is the batch number for that particular knife model. Batch #001 for a knife model is always the Inaugural batch and can be either a RERUN EDITION (it will be run in that material/finish/color combo again) or it could be a UNICORN EDITION.

Blade # / Batch Quantity: these two numbers indicate the quantity of knives run in the batch, and that particular blade’s number within the batch.
